New Semester Again...

Wow.. A new semester has just begun. It is definitely going to be a long 4 months for me with 5 classes. I was told that I had to take 5 classes of Spanish. I am allowed to drop a class, making it 4 classes but it does not benefit me in the long run. It is because the classes are interrelated and if I were to drop a class, I would actually miss out a lot. The European credit system is very different from the American education system. May be it is just University of Nebrija, but even if I were to complete 80 hours it would translate to 6 credits, which in the American education system is only equivalent to 3 credit hours. Now, here is my problem. In the study abroad approval form, I was told that the minimum credits that I have to take is 12 and 16 credits is the maximum. However, if I were not to attend the one-month intensive course I would receive 15 credits for the entire semester but with the intensive assuming it is three credits, I would be getting 18 credits at the end of the semester. I would not want the 2 credits to just slip pass my fingers, I consulted the representatives in Nebrija.

After almost an hour of explanation I was still not satisfied with the explanation given by the university representatives, I then proceed to consult Alex Okuda, the director of study abroad in SUA. After explaining my situation, and informed him about the intensive course that was 80 hours. He replied back promptly stating that it is not 3 credits but 5 credits. Wooohoooo… Alex was caring enough to ask me whether could I handle all 5 Spanish classes, since for the past 2 years of taking Spanish in SUA, I never got higher than a C, always around a C-. Well, I guess I would just need to bite the bullet till the very end. On the bright side, Alex approved my overload of 5 classes for the semester. That means by the end of my study abroad, I will be getting 20 credit hours. This is the highest overload since attending Soka. I do not plan to take it a pass no pass, it could be extremely risky, but maybe it is worth taking the risk.

Please wish me luck. By the way, lately I have been listening to a lot of jazz. I just miss playing the tenor so much that every time when I see a street performer play the saxophone, I just miss my Selmer even more. Now I know how Hay Min feels when at one point she was not able to play the saxophone due to back injuries. I am now looking for some jazz bars to hang out. I am kind tired of clubbing. I just need a place to cheer with a good saxophonist entertaining me during my weekends.

Selmer… I miss you.
