This girl in my class has the sweetest smile. There were a couple of times in class that I caught her stealing a glimpse of me. She has an extremely sweet appearance and I must say that her smile attribute 90% to that sweetness. Finally, for the first time after one week she sat beside me in class. Her name is Yulia and she is from UC Berkeley and studies genetics.
Because she missed class last Friday, she asked me what did the teacher taught us last week. She seemed the kind of person that would be always on top of her things. At first it was kind of stressful sitting beside her because she would ask me questions that I cant even explain to her because I was sure of the answer. Spanish being my fourth language, I can tell you honestly that I am the last person you would want to ask me question about Spanish. But she asked and asked and asked. At the beginning of class, she asked me what handouts the teacher gave us on Friday. I showed the handout and it was only one handout. She asked me to swear and promised her that it was the only handout and there were no other handouts. I was kind of shocked. Do I need to swear that it was the only handout? That is ridiculous.
Half way during class while we were learning vocabularies on clothing and accessories in Spanish, she asked me whether she looks good in her black watch. I told her that it was okay but she was not satisfied and asked me, what I mean by it is okay. It is either really good or really bad. Well, I had to cover up and told her that if only she would take off the red string on her left wrist, it would totally make the watch looks nicer. From the red string, I learned that she is Jewish and the red string represents a prayer that she had made in the Western wall in Israel.
She then proceeds by asking me whether she would look good with a piercing in the middle of her right ear. I told her “NO!” Why would she want to do that? She looks really sweet and having that piercing would only make her look trashy. She was slightly taken aback by my comment and confidently told me that she believes it would look good on her.
Hahahaha.. weird UC Berkeley students. They are so damn competitive and in some ways slightly insecure. Reflecting upon the incident of the handout, I think she has had a bad experience where her “friends” must have tried to fuck her over. But hey, I am from Soka. We might be competitive, but we practice healthy competition. Don’t you all agree? Hahahaha
So many new people to meet and things are slowly getting more interesting. I am starting to love Madrid and my study abroad experience.
